Vespa

Vintage Scooter
In April 1946, Vespa introduced its first scooter in a Golf Club in Rome. The first sales of Vespa were managed through a small dealer network. Piaggio, the company that created Vespa, was initially founded in the late 19th century as a ship-outfitting business and had expanded into railway construction and manufacturing aircraft. Because of its work in building aircraft, it was a target during the war, and its factories were completely destroyed. Even worse, Italy had signed an agreement not to research or produce aircraft for ten years following the war's end. Enrico Piaggio decided to build motorcycle as an affordable means of transportation within the cities. Piaggio approached Corradino D'Ascanio to design the new bike. There was just one problem - he hated motorbikes.D'Ascanio felt that motorcycles were too bulky, dirty and unreliable, so he set about making a two-wheeled vehicle that didn't feel like a motorcycle. He moved the gears to the handlebars for convenience, and put the engine under the seat, to keep the riders and their clothes protected from oil and grease. The Vespa was born. It got its name, which means 'wasp' in Italian, from the fact that early versions sounded like an insect buzzing.

Lambretta

Lambretta Scooter
In October 1947 ~ October 1948 Lambretta 125 M - (A Model)The A model, or 125M, is the very first Lambretta. This original model, which is never exported, has a 125cc engine with a three-speed gearbox and a foot-operated gear shift, which Innocenti only uses on this model. It has no rear suspension and has to make do with a rubber anti vibration block at the front the handlebars swept back like those on some motorcycles the cables are threaded through with the throttle working on a spiral the 3.5 X 7 inch wheels have three holes which also hold the rim onto the hub. The tire has to be deflated before it can be removed and the engine is air cooled. To gain access to the contact breaker the cover is simply twisted and removed so no spanners are needed. To gain access to the engine 2 bolts are removed from the toolbox and the whole seat tilts up many of their parts are Chrome plated and the brilliant colors of the paintwork launch the lambretta on the road to success. It wasn't till November 1948 to January 1950 lambretta introduced the 125 B it looked very similar to the (A model) but the engine has a knuckle joint on the rear with spring suspension. Many other improvments were made to this model which shot the Lambretta into a larger produtions.
